THE SECRET DIARY OF ADRIAN MOLE AGED 13¾
Out of the three books I chose The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4. The book is a written account of the life of Adrian Mole, an adolescent teenager trying to survive the wrath of puberty and the struggles of growing up. It’s categorised as a children’s book and is written more simplistically than an adult book would be but the themes throughout are the nature of an older audience. I found it interesting that in comparison to the other two classic books the cover for this one would be somewhat of a challenge to produce something aimed at children, or teenagers but reveals to be a book that is truthful about the reality of adulthood. Before I read it I had the expectation of a childish book and by the end had discovered it to be ‘risqué’, especially of the time in which it was written. All the covers that have previously been curated show simplistic illustrations or bright colours so breaking away from what’s been done will aim to focus on the generation of today, bringing them the wit and personality of Adrian Mole.
You are invited to design a cover look for The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole to bring this much-loved classic to a new generation of readers. The design should ensure that this original and hilariously funny book remains a must-read for every child.
Your cover design needs to include all the cover copy supplied and be designed to the specified design template (B format, 198mm high x 129mm wide, spine width 16.6mm), incorporating the PUFFIN branding and all additional elements such as the barcode.
